President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is directing the Pentagon to launch the sixth branch of the army – “Space Force”.
Trump said the new military branch would be a “separate but equitable” branch of the army, the Associated Press reported. This would increase the number of military branches from five to six.
The President said he did not want “China and Russia and other countries to lead us.”
The announcement was joined by Vice President Mike Pence, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and members of his space council.

“I am a great believer to go there and take this border, which is largely unknown to you, a man or a woman, and you learn about all that is known about it, and what you are doing is so important,” Trump said.
The mission on Mars will become “very fast”, perhaps because of “rich boys” like rockets, the president said.
“As long as he’s an American rich man, that’s good, they can beat us,” he said. “We’ll save some money, and they can beat us, and we’ll do it.”
