John Amirante, a longtime singer of the Rangers National Anthem, died Tuesday morning, the team announced. He was 83 years old.
“Our thoughts are with his wife Anna, her children and the whole family of Amirante,” the Rangers say in their statement. “We will forever remember and miss John @ TheGarden.”

Amirante became part of Madison Square Garden from 1980 to 2015 when he retired – though he would occasionally appear.
Amirante, born in the Bronx, probably had his best known hymn in 1994, before the Game 7 final of the Stanley Cup. The crowd was so loud that he was barely heard.
