Bharat bandh live: One killed in protest in MP, Rajnath Singh calls groups to maintain peace

Several Dalit organizations called on a bandh on Monday to express concerns about the alleged “dilution” of the SCs / STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989.

The Supreme Court on 20 March prohibit automatic arrest and registration of criminal cases under the laws of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), Prevention of Victims of 1989, a law that protects marginalized communities from abuse and discrimination.

No arrest can be prohibited under the law

Judge representative AK Goel and UU Lalit have decided that no arrest can be prohibited under the law without intervention. He also ruled that a court may give a preliminary bail if it first finds out that the complaint is a misuse of the law, a fake, motivated and intended to extortion or harassment of a person.

Even if violent protests were reported across the country, the Union government filed a petition for review by the Supreme Court, questioning its ban on banning automatic arrest and registration of cases for alleged harassment of SC and ST
